Sustainability with up to data

As an established company for laboratory digitization and clinical study data management, at up to data, we understand that sustainability means much more than providing efficient software solutions. Our vision is not only to increase efficiency in laboratories worldwide but also to make a significant contribution to resource conservation. Our solutions optimize paper consumption, streamline processes, and reduce energy consumption in laboratories across various industries – a direct contribution to sustainable business practices in the digital age.

The digitization of laboratories enables our customers to significantly improve their environmental footprint without compromising on process optimization. This is how modern software technology creates win-win situations: better results with fewer resources.

Sustainability is a continuous process that requires constant commitment and creativity. At up to data, we continuously develop our sustainability strategy – from energy-efficient server structures to environmentally friendly office concepts, and promoting environmental awareness among all employees.

As part of our sustainability campaign 2024/2025, we have set a special example: In collaboration with the Foundation Enterprise Forest (SUW), 300 trees were planted in the Harz region. On March 6, 2025, a team from up to data joined forces with the SUW to help with the planting. The young oaks, maples, and beeches now stand at the Granetal Dam near Goslar and will grow into a (hopefully) resilient forest area.

In recent years, German forests have suffered greatly: drought, climate change, and the resulting bark beetle infestation have destroyed around 600,000 hectares of forest in a very short time. The Harz region – one of Germany’s largest forest and hiking areas – was hit particularly hard. Two-thirds of the spruce stands have died due to these factors.
Foresters are now focusing on climate-resistant mixed forests with species such as beeches, oaks, and maples. This is exactly where we wanted to step in and provide support.

More Information

The German Forest Foundation (SUW) has been successfully committed to the reforestation and preservation of German forests for years. Through our collaboration with the SUW, we ensure that the donated trees are properly planted and optimally contribute to sustainable forestry in the Harz region.

The hard facts: Two-thirds of the spruce stands have died due to bark beetle infestation, drought in recent years, and climate change. Therefore, more resistant tree species such as beeches, oaks, and maples are primarily being planted.

Our tree donation is just a small part of a bigger picture. Each tree helps to bind CO₂, promote biodiversity, and restore ecological balance. Through close collaboration with foresters and experts, the SUW ensures that the planted trees have a long-term chance to grow into a healthy forest.

Everyone can contribute! Whether through donations, tree sponsorships, or active planting campaigns – there are many ways to support the forest. The SUW offers various programs for companies and individuals to act sustainably. More information is available on the website of the German Forest Foundation (SUW).

This tree donation is just the beginning. We at up to data continue to support sustainable projects and are delighted if we can inspire other companies to take action. Because every tree counts!
